G'day Guys & Gals,

After looking at all these other Patrols getting upgraded with bits and pieces, I thought I should start doing the same.

I sat my wife on the couch and started to lay the law down with what I am going to do with my tax refund. After I was told "NO" and given a new set of rules to follow, I started to get quotes for some items I would like.

One of the first places I called was ARB Townsville, and enquired about a rear bar with wheel carrier & dual jerry holder. I had a quote emailed to me............WOW...........I nearly shat myself and cried.

2001 GU PATROL WAGON.
ARB REAR BAR GU WAGON TO 10/04 BLK $2,040.00 Each 2.45% $1,990.00 GST
Wheel Carrier - RHS $823.00 Each 2.79% $800.00 GST
Jerry Can Holder - LHS $720.00 Each 2.78% $700.00 GST
7.5hrs for fitting - Fitting Fee $90.00 Hour $675.00 GST
Subtotal $4,165.00

Is that the going rate for a rear bar??

Should I buy one from eBay??, and been the mechanical moron that I am, Can I install it myself if the instructions come with pictures and diagrams

If anyone here has a 2nd hand one or knows someone that is selling one, would I be better of buying a good 2nd hand one for obviously a lot less??

Thankyou for any advise you can give

Adam

Plenty of other rear bars I believe Powerful make a 4mm one around $2100 complete [2 pivot] look around, Thats heaps for only a rear bar, try Kaymar as well if you're looking new
Plus a guy down Benalla way does one leaving your OE rear bumper in place it's called Karry something. Goggle would help you find it.

I have the MCC bar minus tyre carriers...exactly the same (and I believe MCC make em) for Powerful4x4.
I couldnt find any physical difference between MCC and Powerful....apart from price.
The same bars as what Mudrunner has listed for you above.

The way I saw it, I want the steel bar as protection....later on when kids are older I will either buy or build a tyre carrier if required.
Like you Adam....after laughing my arse off at places like TJM and ARB , and listening in disbelief to verbal quotes from Kaymar.....the MCC bar does exactly what I want, for at LEAST half the cost.
Found myself a local vendor, negotiated a bar-only sale, picked it up to save on freight and installed it myself.....pretty happy with it.

sorry for the pretty crap photo...best one I have of the bar.

Hope this helps mate....it all depends on what you want to do with the vehicle.

cheers

i have the powerfull 4x4 bar and i can see alot of diffrences between them and mcc. the only issue ive had so far is the locking mechenisum hook that the latch catches on broke off on my last trip during the boys weekend bigrig organized but i still like the bar it was a bit annoying but easy fix.

diffrent latch and reverse lights to name the obvious
