My battery has carked it, won't hold a charge so I'm looking to buy a new heavy duty one. There is the Exide N70EX for $215 with 620CCA from Kmart and the Century N70ZZL4WD for $225 with 760CCA from Supercheap.
I want to be able to start the car obviously, and run a stereo for a few hours with an LED on the back and eventually a winch. Which do you think is the best option here? Both have 2 year warranties.

Cheers, Chris.

other option is look at the Century marine battery N70 size as it is 720cca with a 100ah rating hybrid battery, crank and deep cycle. Supercheap have them for $220ish as well so it gives you another option, they are not sealed though. If you want a sealed 1 around the same price, may pay to look at Supercharge or similar named brand

is it sealed and all that jazz whats the AH rating?

Winnie

Yes it's sealed, 100AH rating. So you can run 1200W for an hour before it goes flat.

I have a Century marine second battery. As far as vibrations go, these batteries are designed for use at sea, choppy bumpy conditions.

Cheers

The Amp Hour rating quoted is usually the 20 hour rate: you can get 5A for 20 hours.
The discharge rate for one hour will be considerably less.

Gah, got the wrong battery! The polarity is the wrong way around, so terminals on the wrong side. Didn't even occur to me that they may be different. No biggy, keep my old battery on the trickle charger tonight then swap it tomorrow.

ahh bugger mate can you use it as a dual ? Or you got one already, would be good for winching/running accessories

Winnie

Nah I don't have dual batteries. Apparently they don't make the marine batteries in a C polarity. I just need to extend the earth strap, I'll probably just do that and keep this one.

CAT batteries are good to if anyone is ever in the market for batteries. I have recently purchased the largest battery they make @ 60kg it aint little. Has 1500 cca 465 min RC and 210 Ah @ 20 hr amp rating capacity i think is how the worded it. It cost me $380

be sweet in a tray but 60kg wont be good under the hood on the arches not that it would prob fit. standard size agm's are like 35kg and not recomended for the weight.

standard size is 300l x 170w x 200h that cat is 520l x 275 x 200h def not gonna fit under my hood.when i got a new one max i fitted was 305l x 174w x 225 hwith no modifications

Yeah they do a heap of sizes inc ones similar to n70 just saying they are a high quality battery and are competitively priced as well. I havent mounted it anywhere i just leave it sitting next to the fridge at camp and it happily runs it all weekend. Still wanna see how long it will run it for without a charge.

we run the 'toyota' (#230-6368 group65 size 303x190x191) one as our starting battery 880CCA and 2 group31 1000CCA for the 24v winch. I just bought a new one today for the dual battery setup in the GU, #175-4370 825CCA and 100Ah for $143.40 + GST from Hastings deering
It is 329x171x236 and fits in the std dual battery location. They are great as they can be used as both a deep cycle and start battery. Plus they have a 5 year pro rata warranty.

Ended up swapping it for the Century N70ZZL4WD
Unfortunately you can't get the marine batteries with reversed polarity and this was the only other N70ZZ sized battery they had.

Could've gotten a refund if I wanted, this battery was the one I was looking at getting originally until someone mentioned the marine battery.

Hmm that cat battery would be nice as a second battery but would take a bit of work to fit it under the bonnet and not destroy the guard. But would be do able. Might be a plan when the marine pro I have kicks the bucket

vib's are what marine batteries are designed to handle.
there's no suspension on a boat.
I see you are not impressed some how.
just food for thought.

which would you rather 5mile off shore a battery that's not up to the task or a quality marine battery.
I know which I'd choose.
Yeah I know your not going off shore.
what about that track you wish to go and explore.
where the nearest hospital is 200k away and your phone has no reception !!.

Marine batteries often have a second set of terminals which is handy for powering all of your devices.

Winnie

Yeah doesn't help if they're on the wrong side though!

Do the marine batteries have any problems with vibrations?
The plate locks inside are thicker and stronger than normal start batteries so yes, they will handle vibrations better.

Winnie

I don't understand how it was cheaper then
